[Parents should] recommend some books with female leads that your son would enjoy reading. If your next question is “Why?,” then ask your daughter why she liked Harry Potter. She might say it was a good story, great characters, and a fantastic world. Who cares if the main character was a boy? In fact, girls will pick up a book with a hero or heroine equally. According to my excellent librarian resources, boys will actively avoid books with a girl as the main character. What’s the problem? I have no idea. Why should you encourage your son to read books with heroines? That’s easy. You want your son to grow up knowing that a strong female for a friend, wife or boss is normal and good.

Photographer Dana Allen waited three days and used a dummy seal to get the perfect shot of a great white shark off the coast of South Africa. Pretty awesome.
From the New York Daily News:

“The strike, when it happens, takes just over a second, up and out and back into the water,” he explained, according to Cater News. “If you flinch you can miss it.”
At one point, just as his team was settled in, they heard a crash.
“In an instant the four-meter (13-foot) great white shark was up and out of the water, right in front of our eyes,” Allen said. “The water was streaming off its body and I pressed my trigger button.”

Who doesn’t love a turkey, stuffing, and vegetable sandwich?  Leftovers are fantastic but you need an awesome loaf of bread to make the sandwich rock.  This loaf did the trick.  Sourdough with a hint of rye and whole wheat.  Base recipe is from Thomas Keller’s new cookbook.
